About Section

The Instrument Comprehension section of the AFOQT assesses your ability to read and interpret aviation instruments, a critical skill for pilots. This section tests how well you can understand the orientation and direction of an aircraft based on visual representations of flight instruments.

What to Expect:

  • Number of Questions: Typically, around 25 questions.
  • Time Limit: You are given 5 minutes to complete this section, so quick interpretation is essential.

Key Concepts Tested:

  1. Aircraft Orientation: You’ll be presented with cockpit instruments, such as the artificial horizon (attitude indicator) and compass or heading indicator. Your task is to determine the aircraft's pitch (nose up or down) and bank (left or right), as well as its heading (the direction the aircraft is facing).
  2. Instrument Interpretation: The instruments may display a variety of readings, and you need to extract accurate information from them. Some common instruments you'll need to interpret are:
    • Artificial Horizon (Attitude Indicator): Shows the aircraft’s pitch (up or down) and roll (left or right bank).

    • Compass : Displays the direction the aircraft is heading in degrees (e.g., 0° is North, 90° is East, etc.).

    • Attitude Indicator: Shows the degree of turn or bank the aircraft is making (left or right).
