W&B Table Example
Lesson Summary
When calculating the weight and balance of an aircraft, you start with the weight of all components, such as:
- Empty weight of the airplane: 2015 lbs with a moment of 105,540
- Front seat occupants: 350 lbs at an arm of 85
- Back seat occupants: 325 lbs at an arm of 121
- Baggage: 27 lbs at an arm of 140
- Fuel: 35 gallons converted to 210 lbs with an arm of 75, resulting in a moment of 15800
After calculating the moments for each component, you add up the weights and moments separately:
- Total weight of the aircraft (front seat, back seat, bags, fuel): 2927 lbs
- Total moment: 244,005
Using the weight and moment limits chart to check if the CG and weight of the airplane are within limits:
- Weight of 2927 lbs falls within the weight limits on the chart
- The moment of 244,005 falls between the moment limits listed in the chart
Although some questions on the test may seem tricky due to the way the chart is set up, it's essential to understand how to interpret the data correctly for each component, even when the exact weight is not listed in the table.
